Fireflies Baseball Season Bucket List:
1. Attend as many games as possible.
2. Try out the new River Rat Luminescent Lager {a collaboration with the Fireflies}
3. See Tebow hit a home run.
While the first item on our checklist is a summer long endeavor, the other two were easily checked off yesterday afternoon when we took in our first Fireflies game of the season.
It was a gorgeous, blue sky, sunny, 75 degree day and we put aside all of our other responsibilities {yardwork!} to hit up the fourth home game of the season. There couldn't have been a better day to go hang out at the ballpark.
Patrick & I purchased our cheap seat tickets {the $5 Bojangles Berm seats} and walked into the stadium. What's the first thing that we did? We heard the announcer say that Tim Tebow was up to bat so we stopped to watch.
My favorite local brewery, River Rat, had collaborated with the Fireflies in the offseason to put together a new beer: River Rat Luminescent Lager. I was on a mission to try that so we headed for the bars in the outfield where we knew the beer was on tap. Once we had our beers in hand, we skipped the Bojangles Berm section and parked it in the picnic table area.
It was perfect. We had a great view from the outfield, it wasn't super crowded where we were, and we were closed to the beer. Doesn't get much better than that, does it?
... well, we learned our lesson. We never attended a game on a Sunday afternoon last season so we missed out on the "Splash Sunday" event. There's an old firetruck that has been dressed up in Fireflies colors and logos. At the end of every inning, it starts spraying water from the hoses on the trucks for little kids to run around in:
We made a mad dash from our picnic table to one in a lower level. Then we had to scramble again to another level closer to the field. They were not holding back with the water! We must have moved 3-4 times trying to avoid it. Guess there was a reason that the picnic table section in the outfield was so empty?
But the highlight of the day: we got to see Tim Tebow hit his 2nd homerun! The first one had been on opening night {during his first at bat!} and we were able to see the second one late in the game Sunday afternoon. I don't know about y'all, but I'm officially on board the Tim Tebow train.
All in all, it was a great Sunday afternoon at the ballpark. I can't wait for more games this season! Go Fireflies!
You can literally tell from the photos there's not a single cloud in the sky - what perfect baseball weather! Such a fun weekend activity!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh. He'll be playing in Augusta this week for our last season opener at Lake Olmstead Park. I might have to shimmy there after work.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was THE day in the South for beautiful weather. It was so blue I thought it might be storm clouds.
How fun!!! I didn't realize Tebow played baseball now - so interesting! Sounds like the perfect day at the ballpark (minus the unexpected blasts of water!).
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you're already 2/3 of the way through your bucket list. We have already talked about making sure we see Tebow play soon when the Fireflies head to Charleston!
ReplyDeleteMeg, Borrowed Heaven
Okay, I'm dying to get to a baseball game now! I haven't been since I was a kid!
